Organic & Natural Products Taste Test Extravaganza!

SCORE! I just went to the Shopper’s Drugmart in town to get some photos printed and accidentally stumbled upon a gold mine of natural and organic products ON SALE! So naturally, I had to try some! The biggest chunk of what I picked up were Nativa Organics products, the line exclusive to Shopper’s Drug Mart

GLORIOUS sale offering of Shopper's Drugmart!

GLORIOUS sale offering of Shopper's Drugmart!

Here is what I picked up (all prices Canadian):

  • Kashi TLC (Tasty Little Crackers) – Natural Ranch ($2.49 Sale Price)
  • Mr. Krispers Baked Rice Krisps – Sea Salt & Pepper ($2.69 Regular Price)
  • PopChips Sea Salt & Vinegar
  • Nativa Organics – Mini Chocolate Chip Cookies ($2.49 Sale Price)
  • Nativa Organics – Honey Graham Bears ($2.49 Sale Price)
  • Nativa Organics – Chocolate Graham Bears ($2.49 Sale Price)
  • Nativa Organics – Mini Chocolate Covered Rice & Sesame Cakes ($1.99 Regular Price)
  • Simply Natural – Organic Ketchup ($2.99 Sale Price)
  • Salba Smart – Hot Organic Salsa (OOPs – meant to get medium) ($1.99 Sale Price)
  • Nativa Organic Chai Tea

We haven’t tried everything yet, but we did open a few to taste test.

The Verdict:

  • PopChips Sea Salt & Vinegar. These are SO good. TOO good, considerng the calorie count is 170 per 28 chips – BUT they are very satisfying with even just a couple, and don’t leave you with the greasy, yucky feeling in your mouth regular chips do. I would totally recommend, in moderation of course. The whole family liked them – even my husband, the picky one!
  • Nativa Organics – Mini Chocolate Chip Cookies. Again, DELICIOUS. Small and satisfying. 6 cookies pack a wallop calorie wise though, so not really great for dierters – excellent, however, for Moms who want their children to have a treat but are organic/natural-conscious shoppers.
  • Nativa Organics – Honey Graham Bears. These taste pretty much like Teddy-Grahams (I don’t think they still make those, haven’t seen them anywhere recently.) and my son adores them. Calorie count is not nearly as bad as the chocolate chip cookies.
  • Nativa Organics – Chocolate Graham Bears. Same as the Honey Graham Bears, but my son actually preferred these chocolate ones. Calorie count is not nearly as bad as the chocolate chip cookies.
  • Nativa Organics – Mini Chocolate Covered Rice & Sesame Cakes. Do NOT recommend. These taste like someone through a thin layer of chocolate on a styrofoam cup. Blech! I LOVE rice cakes, but these really were terrible. Too dense, very much like dense sytrofoam in cups or trays. Even if the base was lightly salted or something to give a salty sweet contract, it might improve them a bit, but the texture is still just wrong.
  • Nativa Organic Chai Tea. Another winner! This smelled absolutely divin steeping in my mug, and when I added a bit of Kittilsen’s Wildflower Honey to the mug, well it was about like heaven in a cup. Think of how it feels to curl up in a warm blanket, with a good book on a cold winter day, with an apple pie in the oven, and you will understand just how good this tea is. There are only 16 packets in the box. I think I need to go back for another couple of boxes while they’re on sale.

Didn’t Try Yet:

As soon as we get the opportunity to try these other products, I’ll be back to let you all know what we think of them! 🙂

    Hey!
Those Kashi crackers are my fave! Hope you like them. Also, I have read about the popchips and am SO excited that you found them! I have been wanting to try them for a while. 🙂

Awesome – they really looked tasty, so I figured I ought to try them. I think I’ll take 10 to work with me tomorrow with a bit of cheese or something for my mid-morning snack.

PopChips – Oh you HAVE to try them – they are SUPER good. Still terrible calorie wise, but a much better treat than the alternative – very flavorful. I’m not a big fan of chips, never have been, except maybe Pringles, but I really like these. I don’t feel the need to eat a million after I have one though, thank goodness. Brad liked them as well, and Kaiden too – so they are ‘kid and husband-approved.’ LOL I never heard of them before, but they looked interesting, so I bought them – I’m an easy sell, apparently. Haha.
